"I sailed My Muse
from Cape Town South
Africa to Tortola,
British Virgin Isles on her maiden voyage. Experiences were many, but a
pleasure cruise it was not! More like a life experience! 30 ft seas, 50 knot
winds, surfing down waves at 18 knots, bare poles, and dragging tires to slow
us down! I learned every inch of the boat and what she can handle. She is Blue
Water."

One
word------ WOW!!
You
always have preconceived ideas of what a time you are going to have on a trip,
but it seems to never meet the expectations you dream about. Until now. This
was truly a trip of a lifetime! We started our journey in St.
Thomas and the first night we anchored off the coast of St. John at Trunk
Bay which is rated the
2nd most beautiful beach in the world by the Travel Channel. I awoke before
dawn the next morning and had the rare privilege of watching the sun come up
over the island---breathtaking.The quietness, the morning breeze, the
pristine turquoise-colored water, and a white sand beach......I was
thinking, "It does'nt get any better than this." (and it does'nt!).
Late that morning we continued on to the British
Virgin Islands where we island hopped for the next three
days and visited some of the most unique places we had ever been to. We snorkled
sometimes two or three times a day in different places and on different
islands. It seemed every place we snorkled had unique characteristics from
all others visited and many different species of fish. Dr. Flanagan
(or Captain) is definitely an able bodied seaman and a lot of fun! The
boat was fantastic with four bedrooms and bathrooms and a large galley that had
all the comforts of home. I could go on and on but the bottom line is that
this is an absolute must if you want to really have the trip you have been
dreaming about and accomplish something at the same time.

Well,
here I sit in Texas.
It seems like 17 days in the Virgin Islands
just zipped on by!
….
Just to update y’all, we flew down to St. Thomas and spent a few days wandering
beaches and the town. St Thomas
is a nice place…… If I were planning your vacation, I would take a
taxi straight from the airport to the ferry dock for St John.I
digress…from St. Thomas we went to Tortola. We picked up the boat – My Muse is a 43
ft. catamaran with four staterooms and four bathrooms. ABSOLUTELY an
outstanding boat with OUTSTANDING comfort. Having chartered sail boats in the
past, this is by far the best! We had it stocked with food and scuba gear. Then
we embarked on an AMAZING 10 days beginning with Norman Island.
The ‘Bite’ is the name of the anchorage where “The Deed Was
Done!” --- And yes, it is true…. The Legendary and Magnificent
–at least in my opinion- Rob Davis become ENGAGED!!! Many of you thought
it would never happen and I realize the wonderful girl can back out at any
time.
But,
as of now, August 9, 2004, sweet Becky Lou and I have been engaged for 19
days.So much commitment all at once is blowing my mind. After celebrating with
the bottle of Dom Perrion bought under the guise of Mimosas, we sailed the next
day to Cane Garden Bay.
Very cool night and day life….. And the lights of St. Thomas lie twenty miles west. Then we
sailed to Leverick
Bay and met the
“Puerto Rican Navy “. Evidently, Puerto Rico takes a couple of
weeks off at the end of July for vacation and head to the British
Virgin Islands for a Party! And did they Party! For 2 nights we
were in the middle of this motor yacht mayhem. And then we fled to Anegada.
This little sandbar in the middle of the Caribbean
was outstanding! Untouched beaches, crystal clear water, and Lobsters by the
pound. Two Thumbs Up! We came back
from Anagada and hit Peter Island, Norman
Island, Marina Cay, and a
few other islands. Pretty much the routine was wake up at 8:00, drink coffee
and read for a couple of hours, sail to the next destination, smorkle around,
read a book until you get warm and then roll back in the water and snorkel
again. Then, at around 5 pm, cocktail hour would start. And we would cook
dinner. From Tortola, we went to St.
Johns. This place was awesome as well. We only had
aday and a half but we hiked nearly 10 miles of mountains, snorkeled 3 times,
ate great food and toured old Sugar and Rum mill ruins. I wish we had more time
there. 75% is aNational
Park and it is
pristine! Then we came back to
reality. Bleh!…. and here we’ll be until the newt
adventure…no real plans yet…Galapagos, Costa Rica, Palalu,
Bali…Who knows? But, without a doubt, we will be back to the Virgin Islands on this boat within a year. Ifyou’ve
never chartered a sail boat or catamaran, this is an UNBELIEVEABLE experience.
And you can’t do much better than the amenities and room of “My
Muse”!
